About us

What type of services does Dr.Vilcheck provide.

Routine / Annual eye examinations are basic for the young and old patients.

A review of general health conditions and medications taken. A Listing is made of all visual complaints / problems being experienced. Thorough examination to determine the best eyeglass prescription for a new pair of eyewear or contact lenses. The eyes are dilated (if necessary) to evaluate the internal structures of the eye. Particular attention is given to looking for any pathology such as glaucoma, diabetes or retinal defects. In the young patient Dr. Vilcheck checks that the eye muscles function in normal fashion for near activities and to initiate treatment to minimize the progression of near sightedness (myopia). Preventive treatment is always strongly advised.

Diabetic eye Examinations:

Contain all the conditions of a routine eye evaluation with particular examination for sites of leaking blood vessels that can lead to severe visual problems. Retinal scans provide for microscopic evaluation of the back of the eye where most bleeding occurs.

*******

Glaucoma Examination.

Glaucoma is a condition where the internal eye pressure rises to a point where the pressure prevents blood from entering the eye. If the pressure is to great then no blood or a lesser degree of blood enters the eye resulting in the nerve fibers dying or being severely under nourished. In extreme cases – the damage is so severe that the nerve fiber dies and there is NO vision in that associated nerve section of the eye.

*******

Threshold Visual Field Examination.

Threshold field examinations are useful to determine if there is any nerve damage due to high eye pressure. The exam is also helpful to isolate brain tumor defects and used to monitor Plaquenil, Aromasin, and Tamoxifen drug toxicity for patients being treated for breast cancer or arthritis. Even the basic drivers certification for side vision is done with this instrument in just a mattter of a few minutes with precise results.

********

OCT (Ocular Coherence Tomography)

Is like an MRI- medical imaging device that uses light to capture micrometer-resolution, three-dimensional images from within the eye. It shows the thickness of the retina (back of the eye) and can show the areas that may be swollen, detached, bleeding, torn just to mention a few. Extremely useful in monitoring Macular Degeneration, and Glaucoma patients.

Contact Lens Fittings

All types of contact lenses are fit in Dr.Vilcheck’s office. Soft contact lenses are available for 1-day, 1 week, and 1 month use. Specialty astigmatism (toric) lenses and even bifocal astigmatism lenses are available today. Rigid gas permeable (RGP or Hard) contacts are still fit and provide one of the best methods of correcting distance and near vision using a bifocal NO-line design. In recent times a re-invention of an old design “Scleral “ contacts have returned. These “scleral” lenses reach from edge to edge of the eye and are extremely useful in correcting patients with very disfigured corneas (Keratoconus).
